From August 27 to 30, 2026, Calgary celebrated the beauty of multiculturalism through GlobalFest, one of Canada’s most vibrant cultural festivals. Held at Spruce Meadows, the event brought together communities from around the world through cultural pavilions, live performances, international food, family activities, drone shows, and nightly fireworks.

Among the many proud communities represented, the Kurdish community stood strong and visible. This year, the Kurdistani Diaspora Centre Calgary, together with the Kurdish House and dedicated volunteers, proudly presented Kurdish culture, heritage, and identity to thousands of visitors.

For four days, the Kurdish pavilion welcomed guests from Calgary and beyond. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about Kurdish history, traditional clothing, music, dance, daily life, and the rich cultural spirit of Kurdistan. The pavilion was more than a display; it was a living piece of Kurdish identity, filled with colour, pride, memory, and tradition.

Cultural Programs and Living Traditions

The Kurdish program included cultural presentations, traditional Kurdish dance, and live music performances. These moments brought energy, joy, and unity to the festival, while giving visitors a meaningful opportunity to connect with the Kurdish people and their story.

GlobalFest is an important platform because it allows communities to share who they are with the wider public. For Kurds, this opportunity carries special meaning. Kurdish culture has survived through generations of hardship, displacement, and struggle, and events like GlobalFest help ensure that this heritage is seen, respected, and remembered.
